SFL Provided Simultaneous Interpretation Services for National Facility for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NFEES) Self-Inspection Conference for Technical Performance and 1st International Conference on Safety and Resilience of Infrastructure

On August 12, 2024, the National Facility for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NFEES) Self-Inspection Conference for Technical Performance was held at the Peiyang Campus, Tianjin University. Yang Xiangjin, the Party Secretary of the University, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Yin Shiyu from the Translation Education Center of our school led an excellent graduate Li Yichen from the 2022 Master of Translation and Interpreting and two 2023 Masters of Translation and Interpreting students, Liu Luyao and Yuan Bo, to provide professional Chinese-English simultaneous interpretation services for this meeting.

Upon receiving the news of providing simultaneous interpretation services for this meeting, Yin Shiyu and the three students immediately began pre-meeting preparations. After nearly a week of full preparation, 3 online rehearsals, and 2 offline rehearsals, the teacher and students closely cooperated to complete the preparation of more than 100 pages of text manuscripts and nearly 120 pages of PPT materials, laying a solid foundation for the successful completion of various translation and interpretation service tasks at this meeting.

On August 13, the 1st International Conference on Safety and Resilience of Infrastructure, hosted by the National Facility for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NFEES) and the School of Civil Engineering at Tianjin University, was successfully held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Tianjin. Yin Shiyu and our excellent graduate Li Yichen provided simultaneous interpretation services for the report “The Connotation and Difference between Intelligence and Wisdom” by Academician Xie Lili from the Institute of Engineering Mechanics, China Earthquake Administration. This report involved the content related to intelligence and wisdom, providing valuable ideas for strengthening infrastructure safety and resilience.
