Sun Xiaohan and Wang Zhan Published a Theoretical Article on the Construction of Country and Area Studies in the Overseas Edition of People's Daily

Recently, Sun Xiaohan and Professor Wang Zhan, educators from the School of Foreign Languages, published a theoretical article titled Practicing with Diligence and Dedication and Constructing China’ s Independent Knowledge System of Country and Area Studies in the Overseas Edition of People’s Daily.

The article points out that establishing Country and Area Studies with Chinese characteristics and constructing China’s independent knowledge system are important tasks for the prosperity of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics. They are also the noble missions and responsibilities entrusted to Country and Area Studies researchers by the times. To shoulder this heavy responsibility, it is necessary to answer three fundamental questions: why it is necessary, why it is feasible, and how to accomplish it. Only by doing so can we achieve the construction of a discipline system, academic system, and discourse system for Country and Area Studies with Chinese characteristics based on China’s independent knowledge system, and further enhance the international influence of China’s philosophy and social sciences.

The article believes that Country and Area Studies researchers in the new era should base themselves on China’s realities and address China’s issues. From multiple perspectives and levels such as theoretical paradigms, path choices, and indicator systems, they should more firmly and consciously construct discipline systems, research methods, and discourse systems for Country and Area Studies with China’s independent knowledge system as its core. This will help form a knowledge system for Country and Area Studies with Chinese characteristics, styles, and manner, serving the overall development of great cause of the Party and the country.
