1. Course Description

Students should be a good master of the ancient Chinese language course,for it is a professional fundermental course of Chinese literatuer and arts and is a tool for other classes such as literature and history. The purpose aims to help students grasp the ability of reading and using ancient Chinese books by teachers’ directions. Improve students’ attainment in classical Chinese language so as to own an excellent preparation for classical Chinese gramma, characters,phonology and exegesis.

2. Requirements

Students should have a good understanding of selected anthology and theorical knowledge. Besides, they are expected to know some methods of looking up ancient works to enhance the capality of ancient Chinese usage.

3. Topics

Introduction: The nature of the ancient Chinese language courses, features, functions, learning methods and requirements

Lesson one: The nature of Chinese characters, the evolution of Chinese characters, the structure of Chinese characters: six methods to make characters, the form, the pronounciation and the meaning of Chinese characters

Lesson two: The usage of Chinese characters, words and phrases, under the guise of the word and the word - differentiation words - variants

Lesson three: The original meaning and extended meaning - meaning of inheritance and evolution of ancient and modern -

Lesson four: Meaning 2: the same words and synonyms family - meaning the opposite and relative - the word used in conjunction and partial use - terms of

Lesson five: Noun: similarities and differences between ancient and modern grammar - nouns and sentences - as adverbial noun - noun utilize a verb

Lesson six: Verbs and verb phrases - the type of verb-object relationships - verbs as other sentence elements

Lesson seven: Adjectives and adverbs: adjectives used and utilize - the classification and use of adverbs

Lesson eight: Pronouns and numerals: the classification and the use of pronouns - numerals and quantity of representation - the active use of pronouns and numerals

Lesson nine: Prepositions: the classification and use of prepositions - prepositions - prepositions of looming object - preposition looming

Lesson ten: Conjunctions, tone words: conjunctions and use of the classification - the classification and use of the word tone

Lesson eleven: Substantive in the active use of virtual function words: verbs and prepositions, conjunctions of relations - practical function words

Lesson twelve: The sentence and word order: sentences and read - verb object's front and rear - prepositional object of the front and rear

Lesson thirteen: Sentence and expression: sentence and sentence type - to determine the sentence and the verb - Passive sentences and passive representation - some special expressions

Lesson fourteen: Reading the literature: classic historical - Bai and punctuation - Chapters and moral principles - and recite familiar

Lesson fifteen: Literature Notes: Note the contents of the - comment style - the ancient practice note reading

Lesson sixteen: Classical modern translation: meaning, sentence meaning and cultural meaning of the translation - accurate and fluent - the adjustment of sentence and word order - the story - and interpretation of history and culture of the original

5. Grading

Program achievements include two parts, the usual results accounting for 10% of the final grades and final examination accounting for the rest. Usual results will be based on homework performance and attendance for each assessment, which share 20% attendance, job performance 80%. Percentile score will be given in the end..
