Course Introduction General Linguistics focuses on the common problems of human languages in general. It mainly studies the following basic questions: the nature of language, the structure of language, the origin of language, language development and change of its principles, language acquisition, the relationship between the various branches of linguistics and the status in the scientific system, and so on. By studying this course, undergraduate students are supposed to master the basic theories and research methods of this discipline, comparing at least one foreign language with their natives, in order to strengthen their general understanding of the rules of language. It will benefit their progressing analysis ability for future in-depth study of each specific problems that may be found. Learning contents includes discipline theory lectures, references reading, seminar discussion, and research papers writing. | |||
