University Leaderships Visit School of Foreign Languages for Investigation and Research

On the afternoon of March 17, Li Bin, Member of the Standing Committee of the University Party Committee and Vice President, visited the School of Foreign Languages for investigation and research. He was accompanied by Hu Qinghua, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School; Gu Yuzhu, Director of the General Management Office; Yang Guang, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office; Shen Yan, Section Chief of Professional Accreditation, Office of Education Quality Management; and Li Feiyue, Section Chief of Monitoring. The leadership team of the School of Foreign Languages attended the investigation symposium, which was presided over by Wang Lisong, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages.

During the symposium, Wang Lisong delivered a detailed report covering the school's overview, Party building efforts, discipline development, teaching and research activities, faculty and student development. Zhang Wenli, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, reported on the opportunities and challenges faced by the school in education and teaching, team building, and discipline development, as well as the key tasks and main measures for the next phase.

The participating departments provided active responses to the problems and challenges in the development of the School of Foreign Languages, discussed focal points for accelerating and enhancing the school's growth, and expressed support for its work.

Li Bin listened attentively to the work report of the college, affirmed the development trend and achievements of the foreign language college since its establishment, and pointed out the work direction and key tasks of the foreign language college from the perspective of the school 's development strategy. He made three demands on the College of Foreign Languages. First, we should constantly improve the level of foreign language teaching, establish a long-term mechanism from the perspective of teachers’ professional development, encourage teachers to carry out teaching research, pay attention to the output of teaching achievement awards, and strive for the greatest support of schools. The second is to face challenges in foreign language professional education, carry out interdisciplinary research, and encourage teachers to actively explore new models of foreign language talent training. Third, in scientific research, we should focus on the key directions of country and area studies, take the discipline leaders as the core, dig deep into the potential of young teachers, and produce more and higher quality advisory reports, so as to reflect the advantages and characteristics of the discipline.

Prior to the symposium, Vice President Li Bin and his delegation conducted an on-site visit to the School of Foreign Languages and the Global South Institute.
