1. Course Description

As a specialized elective course for students majored in Chinese Language and Literature, the course is designed to present to the students the psychology, thoughts, posture and expressions in the process of communication on theoretical level. Practices are also offered for the students to react in various contexts and improve their communication skills. With better understanding of interpersonal skills, the students are supposed to be able to express themselves better in both oral and written ways.

2. Requirements

The course mainly focuses on skills of verbal communication, which covers basic ways of language communication, fundamental principles for verbal communication, art of everyday language, art of language for hosts, debaters and leaders, andtechniques for job interviews.

3. Topics

Chapter 1 focuses on the features of oral communication. Chapter 2Non-verbal communication skills. Chapter 3 discusses the art of daily language. Chapter 4 talks about presentation skills. Chapter 5 presents the art of public debate. Chapter 6 shows the language art of leaders and governors. Chapter 7 pays attention to job interviews.

5. Grading

Attendance and participation take up 20%. Classroom practices take up 30%. Oral test at the end of the term takes 50%.
