On last Friday afternoon, Yuan Jiahong, a professor from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), was invited to deliver an exciting lecture to the teachers and students in the “Chunhui Lecture” of the School of Foreign Languages of Tianjin University. .
The lecture was presided over by Vice Dean Liu Jiaji.
In a humorous and plain language, Prof Yuan Jiahong introduced the markedly differences in speech pause patterns between Alzheimer's patients and healthy individuals. The lecture primarily delved into utilizing these pause characteristics within the framework of Transformer-based language models to aid in the identification of Alzheimer's disease. The findings of this research are poised to substantially enhance the accuracy of automatic Alzheimer's disease identification through spoken language.
Professor Yuan's presentation was both accessible and witty, fully engaging the faculty and students in deep contemplation. In the Q&A session, several teachers and students posed relevant questions, igniting a spirited exchange of ideas and a lively discussion.
