A Delegation Led by Huang Jianzhong, the Vice President of Fuzhou University of International Studies and Trade, Visited Tianjin University to Conduct Research on the Construction of the Institute for Global South Studies

On the morning of March 12, Huang Jianzhong, the vice president of Fuzhou University of International Studies and Trade, the State Council Special Allowance Expert, the WTO Chair, and the president of Shanghai Association of International Trade; Liu Enzhuan, the dean of the International Business School; Wu Qinyuan, the director of the Scientific Research Development Center; and Meng Yu, a teacher, visited Tianjin university to conduct research on the construction of the Institute for Global South Studies and the development of the discipline of Area and National Studies. Wang Lisong, the dean of the School of Foreign Languages and the rotating presidency of the Council of the Institute for Global South Studies; Liu Jiaji, the vice dean; Li Junkai, the deputy director of the Multi - language Teaching Department and the director of the Research Center for Francophone Countries of the Institute for Global South Studies; and Sun Xiaohan, a teacher in the Multi - language Teaching Department and the assistant to the executive dean of the Institute for Global South Studies, participated in the symposium.

Wang Lisong warmly welcomed the delegation from Fuzhou University of International Studies and Trade. He began by introducing the significance, functions, advantages and characteristics of the discipline construction of Area and National Studies in our university, as well as its role in promoting the development of this discipline in Tianjin. He then focused on the demonstration effect, institutional setup, research purposes, characteristic research fields and development plans of the Institute for Global South Studies at Tianjin University. He also gave a detailed introduction to the preparations for Tianjin University to take the lead in establishing an academic research community on the “Global South” and to host the International Forum on Sustainable Development and Talent Cultivation in the Global South.

Subsequently, the two sides engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions on issues such as the collaborative construction of the Institute for Global South Studies, the preparations for the International Forum on Sustainable Development and Talent Cultivation in the Global South, strengthening academic exchanges in Global South studies, and carrying out cooperation on major scientific research projects. Prior to the symposium, the delegation from Fuzhou University of International Studies and Trade visited the School of Foreign Languages and the Institute for Global South Studies on-site.
