Faculty

The School has a highly qualified teaching faculty with extensive teaching experience. It currently has 32 doctoral supervisors, 48 master’s supervisors, 26 professors, and 43 associate professors. The vast majority of faculty members have overseas experience, having either returned to China after studying abroad or pursued further studies overseas.

The School’s research primarily focuses on area studies, translation studies, as well as foreign language and literature studies. Notably, the Institute for Global South Studies at Tianjin University, established by the School, stands as the first of its kind in China. Serving as a central hub for area studies, it aims to conduct comprehensive and interdisciplinary research encompassing the culture, language, economy, science and technology, politics, diplomacy, and education of Global South countries.

In addition to the teaching of the school’s subjects, it is also responsible for the English instruction for over 30,000 undergraduates, graduate students, and doctoral students across the university.
